Grant funded program to assist applicants in paying their electric or gas bills. Clients are eligible for one LIHEAP regular heating payment and one LIHEAP regular cooling payment per year. Clients who qualify for crisis assistance are eligible for an additional heating and cooling payment per program year. Funds are paid directly to utility companies and vendors.

Interested applicants should schedule an appointment at their county’s office and bring the required documents. At the appointment, clients will complete an application for the LIHEAP program and an award will be made on their behalf to their utility vendor by the agency.

Social Security Cards for all members of the household
Proof of income for the previous month for all adults over the age of 18 or social security award letter
Utility bill in the applicant’s name
If client lives in government housing a lease is required

The award amount differs based on household income and number of individuals within the household. A crisis award will cover the lowest amount possible to prevent utility disconnection.

2024 Income Guidelines
The applicant’s total household income for the previous month must be at or below 150% Federal poverty:

3 People $3228
4 People $3900
5 People $4573
6 People $5245
7 People $5918
8 People $6590
Add $643 for each additional member in households with more than 8 people.
